Shoulder, Arm and Hand Pain

jesper-aggergaard-495757There are many conditions associated with the upper extremities (shoulder, arm and hands) that can cause pain and affect function. Neuritis, Bursitis, Frozen Shoulder, Tendinitis such as golf or tennis elbow, Rotator Cuff injuries, and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, just to name a few!

Many of these conditions cause symptoms such as:

  • Pain in the neck, shoulder, arm, wrist, fingers or hand
  • Muscle weakness
  • Loss of range of motion or pain with movement
  • Joint or Muscle stiffness
  • Pain that spreads or “radiates” into the extremities
  • Numbness and tingling “Pins and Needles”
  • Facial pain or TMJ
  • Dizziness or Vertigo
  • Headaches or Migraines

Is it just Aging? golf

People sometimes blame their problems on “aging” when really this is not the case. Many people of all ages can experience pain or injuries. Any injury or trauma can cause the nerve and muscle pain you are experiencing. Old injuries, sports mishaps, car accidents, repetitive motions (like during exercise or at work) poor posture, birth stress and even just sleeping awkwardly can cause these symptoms.

Why do I have Pain?

Pain, loss of function and the other symptoms listed above can be a result of a spinal misaligment and nerve irritation. Spinal bones in the neck and upper back may misalign (due to the causes above) and damage the nerves that exit out of the spinal column.

Billions of nerves extend from your brain as a large bundle called the spinal cord. They travel down your back inside your spinal column and exit between the vertebrae to go to nearly every part of your body. When these nerves are compressed or irritated, the brain receives the signal and “responds” with the pain or symptoms you are experiencing.

A Natural Approach to Pain Relief

A Chiropractor does not “treat” shoulder and hand problems, carpal tunnel syndrome or any health problem for that matter. Our approach is to:

1) Analyze and determine where in the spine you have these misalignments and nerve irritation, called a Subluxation

2) Correcting and removing the subluxation, by gently adjust the spine back into it’s proper alignment, taking pressure off the nerve

Chiropractic adjustments releases the stress off of the spine and the nervous system. With this, it will help restore the natural, healthy flow of nerve signals to and from the shoulders, arms (and any other part of the body).

Chiropractic doesn’t treat, but promotes the innate ability of your body to heal on its own, body balance and harmony!
